Reconnection – Ympäristön kokemuksesta kauneuden käsitykseen/From the experience of the environment to the perception of beauty
Taideniityn residenssissä työskentelin monotypian tekniikalla ja ympäristökokemuksista lähtöisin. Residenssin kokemukset sukelsivat Suomen teollistumisesta luonnonsuojeluun ja ympäristön kokemuksesta kauneuden käsitykseen. Ajatukseni kulkivat residenssin aikana ympyrän; varhaislapsuudesta tulevaisuuden näkymiin. Tiiviin työskentelyperiodin päätteeksi visuaalinen keskustelu jota olin residenssin ajan käynyt ajan määreiden, itseni ja ympäristön välillä yllätti minut vastauksillaan. Uusi yhteys ympäristöön ja alku uudelle taiteellista työtä ja tutkimusta yhdistävälle projektille löytyi yhdistämällä mennyt ja tuleva.

During the residency at Taideniitty, I worked with the monotype technique and from environmental experiences. The experiences of the residency ranged from Finland’s industrialization to nature conservation and from the experience of the environment to the concept of beauty. My thoughts went in a circle during the residency; from early childhood to future prospects. At the end of the intensive working period, the visual conversation that I had had during the residency between the determinants of time, myself and the environment surprised me with its answers. A new connection to the environment and the beginning of a new project combining artistic work and research were found by combining the past and the future.
Monotypia/Monotype
Monotypia on toisinaan vähän kuin keskustelua, kysymyksiä ja vastaamista. Aloitat jostain ajatuksesta, ehdotat jotakin tekemällä siirtosi laatalle, jäljen, ja painaessasi vedos vastaa ja laatta puhuu, kertoo ja ehdottaa. Poimit laatalta tiedot jotka puhuttelevat. Vuoropuhelu elämän, itsesi ja muiden kanssa polveilee laatalla, elävä kuvallinen ketju joka hakee ja ehdottaa, ilmestyy ja häipyy; yö ja päivä, pimeys ja valo, hengitys.

Monotype can sometimes be something like a conversation, asking questions and answering. You start with an idea, a visual suggestion, a trace on to the plate, and when printed, the plate speaks, makes suggestions and talks back. From the plate you collect the information that intrests you and carry on building your images; a dialogue with life, yourself and others, a living pictorial chain that searches and suggests, appears and disappears, night and day, darkness and light, breathing.”
